Founded in 1933 as the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the Iasi University with its center in Chisinau, the Faculty of Agronomy is the oldest faculty within the university. The honour to lay the first foundation stone of this faculty and open wide its doors was entrusted to the eminent man of science, the Professor Haralamb Vasiliu. During 75 years the faculty has prepared more than 8,000 specialists, among them 276 foreigners from 23 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The faculty released so far 23 doctors habilitatus and some 200 doctors of sciences. The pride of the faculty consists in its graduates who have joined the Academy of Sciences of Moldova: A. Ciubotaru, T. Cealic, Maria Duca, A. Jacota, N. Guzun, A. Untila, M. Lupaşcu, V. Micu, C. Moraru, A. Palii, V. Siminel, S. Toma, I. Untila, M. Vronschih. We can continue this list with many other remarkable personalities in production, science, education and other areas. Currently the faculty has 5 departments which include a teaching staff of 41 members, among them 2 correspondent members of the ASM, 4 professors, doctors habilitatus, 25 doctors of sciences, associate professors.
