The Faculty of Horticulture was founded in 1940, originally named faculty of Viticulture, then having other names: Faculty of Fruit and Vegetable Growing, Faculty of Viticulture and Oenology, Faculty of Fruit, Vegetable and Grape Growing. The Faculty has its present name since 1991. During the years, well-known professors and scientists activated within the faculty: A. Ablov, P. Dorofeyev, G. Kabluchko, A. Negru, I. Prints, P. Patron, G. Rudi, A. Subotovici, D. Verderevski, M. Costeţchi, V. Gulii, I. Hanin, L. Kolesnik, E. Malyshev, R. Tsiprush, V. Tanasiev, A. Negru and others, who established the basis of higher horticultural education and who distinguished themselves by fundamental and experimental researches in the fields of horticulture, viticulture, vegetable growing, forestry and plants protection. At present a special contribution in staff training is being led by the members of the ASM G. Cimpoieş and V. Babuc, professors V. Balan, I. Caimacan, N. Perstniov, N. Pamujac. Actually the faculty has 6 departments and 2 laboratories, a teaching staff of 41 members is working now for the benefit of the faculty, among them 2 correspondent members of the ASM, 3 members of different international academies, 6 professors, 24 associate professors, doctors of sciences. The faculty became the Alma Mater of about 9 000 graduates, who follow with pride their profession in different areas: horticulture, plants protection and forestry, science and education. Most of them became remarkable personalities in these fields. The faculty prepared 172 doctors of sciences, among them about 30 doctors habilitatus. At present 950 students study within the Faculty of Horticulture at 4 specialties in 2 cycles: Cycle I – higher bachelor studies The term of studies is 4 years Specialities:
