Scientific research activity is an important part of the academic community, being the fundamental criterion for assessing the academic qualifications and performances. The mission of Science and Innovation Department (SID) is to promote, contribute and coordinate the research collaboration of the university scientific community in order to achieve the main objectives of our department – increasing the quality of scientific research, increasing the technical and quality level of provided services, increasing financial, material and human resources attracted for research and innovation, as well as direct valorization of research results by providing institutional insurance of the information and organizational support.
The scientific research of SAUM is conducted within its 8 faculties being oriented to 7 accredited research profiles: Agronomy, Horticulture and Forestry, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Management in the Agro-Food Sector, Cadastre, Land Resources and Land Law. Also, for the purpose of organizing and conducting applied scientific researches ordered by different enterprises and related to specific research areas of SAUM, it was organized an innovation park with 8 specialized research centers and laboratories. The subdivisions of SID operate in different fields, with budgetary and extra budgetary funding, based on research contracts with the economic agents from the rural and industrial environment, or government institutions, the activities of which place our university among the leading scientific centers of the country and the world.
State Agrarian University of Moldova expresses its European vocation by a continuous evolution in the context of European Higher Agricultural Education and European scientific research, within a competitive environment formed during the 79 years of its existence.
During those 79 years of activity, the university has evolved as a process of knowledge focused on the scientific areas formed within the scientific schools of Bessarabia by noteworthy personalities of the agricultural science:
The modern period of the university, that began in the 90s of the last century – as the Republic of Moldova gained its independence, is characterized by the integration of our university in the European Higher Education System, the development of data and scientific experience exchange with such countries as Romania, Belgium, France, England, USA, Czech Republic. Also there have been developed scientific relations with CIS countries. The didactic staff has participated in over 500 international scientific conferences and symposia, where they presented the unique results of scientific investigations accomplished within SAUM.
In the modern period, the names of SAUM scientists became noteworthy due to the creation of new plant varieties and hybrids, local varieties, animal and poultry cross breeds, improved breeds of farm animals, expanded intensive fruit growing plantations and vineyards and also due to the development of modern mechanization and automation technologies of the agricultural processes and of other related industries, creation of new agricultural machinery, equipment, devices, composite materials, pharmaceutical products, etc. During this period, 15 scientific yearbooks were published, the scientific journal Agricultural Science (2005) began to be published, and about 200 PhD theses were elaborated and defended. These achievements eloquently represent our university and help it to maintain a level of respect and appreciation both at the national and international level. The scientific results of university scientists represented and still represent the basis of technologies used in the agriculture of our country, recording remarkable progress in various fields.
University’s aspiration is to be competitive and efficient in research areas and it is also connected to the successful competency management of the scientific Vice Rectors: A. Cherdivarenco (1944-1945), A. Kovarskii (1945-1949), P. Kurceatov (1949-1945), L. Dorohov (1951-1954), G. Kobluciko (1954-1956), A. Nikiforov (1956-1957), I. Ogorodnai (1957-1961), A. Timosenko (1961-1965), G. Stepurin (1965-1967; 1976-1978) A. Subotovici (1967-1976), I. Chirosca (1978-1983), V. Babuc (1983-1989), P. Patron (1989-1994), V. Starodub (1994-2009), V. Donea (2009-2010). Since 2010, the SID is headed by the Professor, Doctor Habilitatus, Gr. Marian.
Today, in SAUM, the effective research and innovation activities are carried out by a vast scientific potential which includes 6 corresponding members of ASM, about 30 academicians and corresponding members of other academies, 30 Professors, Doctors Habilitatus, more than 170 Associate Professors, Doctors of Science, PhD students, Master’s degree students and students. The practical results of researches are reflected in numerous contracts and projects with national and international funding.
A significant number of PhD, Doctor Habilitatus, Master’s and Bachelor’s theses are elaborated and defended annually within SAUM, which include original scientific results having an important theoretical and practical potential and representing the most important basis for the professional training of the future highly qualified specialists, simultaneously involving new steps towards the adjustment of higher education to the requirements of the European Union.
The scientific potential of the University gave it the opportunity to carry out scientific researches in the most important directions which contribute to continuous development of agriculture and other related branches, among which we can mention the following:
